You may have heard of people telling you that your company and your website should have a Facebook page and Instagram account as well. While most people use social media accounts for personal reasons, quite a few companies have actually used this portal to their advantage. Having a social media presence these days after all, is not uncommon and there are many good reasons why businesses have started using this tool to reach their target market.
For starters, billions of people have accounts on Facebook, and a few billion more post images and share it on Instagram. The sheer number of people you can reach via these mediums is actually reason enough for you to contemplate going the extra-mile in creating and maintaining accounts on social media platforms. There are other reasons that are also just as good however, and here are some of them:
Make yourself twice searchable on Google – yes, you can be found on the same search engine results page (SERP) twice if your site is optimized and you have a well-maintained social media page. A lot of sites have taken advantage of this and you can see both their Facebook page and their website (if properly optimized) on the top rankings of SERPs, which can equate to people choosing them over other competitors that do not have such an advantage working for them.
You can interact with your target market directly – having a social media presence like Twitter and Facebook will actually make you easier to reach by your customers and prospective clients. This will require having someone manning your accounts regularly though, but this would also mean the possibility of more revenues since people tend to react positively to companies that acknowledge their presence and address their concerns in a timely manner.
You can get the message out to more people quickly – the good thing about these social networks is that they reach a lot of people at the same time and instantaneously at that. If you have a new product that you want to promote, doing so on these accounts can get that message out in a snap. If you have a new blog post or new pages on your website, you can get people to check these out (and increase traffic to your site, which in turn will boost your visibility) by posting such an update on your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account.
These are just a few of the advantages that your site and company can get with a social media presence. Of course, as with the management of your website and your company, managing your social media accounts should also be done with some planning and a lot of care. Many companies have experienced bashing and negative publicity via these accounts, so someone has to continuously monitor these to prevent such problems from occurring.
The pros outweigh the cons however, and not having a social media presence will be a sure disadvantage since you will be missing out on reaching millions of prospective clients via these portals. You simply need to plan when to post, what to post, and to have someone answering questions, doing reputation management, and announcing important news to your loyal followers for your social media efforts to be successful and beneficial.
