Pros and Cons of Online Shopping

April 11, 2018

Online ShoppingWhen you talk about the pros and cons of online shopping, you need to see it from the viewpoint of both the seller and the buyer. Why is it good for those who are buying and why is it good for those who are selling? You also need to see the negative side of this phenomenon since it does have a certain negative impact that needs to be addressed.

The Good and the Bad of Online Shopping for Buyers

More and more people are buying stuff online these days, with around 80% of people in the US now doing their buying online. So, to tackle the good and the bad side for the buyer, check this out:

The Good

It is easier for buyers to purchase what they want since they don’t have to leave the safety of their homes. They don’t even need to get dressed to buy whatever it is they want to buy. Home shoppers also get discounts from online coupons, get a wider array of products and variants to choose from, don’t need to carry their items from store to home, and actually saves gas since they don’t have to drive anywhere to buy what they want and need.

The Bad

The bad side of online shopping includes not getting exactly what you paid for, and this includes not getting the right size or the right color. You can even end up having stuff that is very different from what is pictured on the site delivered to you. Delays in delivery, breakages, and even scams are also rampant when it comes to online shopping, with some people even getting their information stolen from them via some online shopping portals.

The Good and the Bad of Online Shopping for Sellers

Even sellers have pros and cons when it comes to online shopping. Here are some of them:

The Good

The good thing about being able to sell online is that you don’t have to have a physical shop, an inventory, and even a warehouse. This means that as a seller, you cut costs and have the manufacturer or supplier deliver directly to your buyers what they order from you. This way of selling is also easier for you since you can sell items and earn a living in the comfort of your own home, and you can even do this in your pajamas. It also gives you unlimited possibilities for the kinds of items that you sell and you can keep your shop open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Bad

As with buying online, selling online also comes with its cons. These include the possibility of working with unreliable suppliers, buyers who keep returning items and causing your site problems, and lots of competition. With so many people now having easy access to these companies that allow drop shipping, competition is rife in the online selling business and this can easily make your business go belly-up, particularly if your competition can offer better deals and discounts that you might not be able to keep up with. Site outages and other similar issues can also be a problem for online sellers.
